Volunteer and help Southwest Little League THRIVE!

Little League Baseball is, at its core, a leadership program, aiming to help raise good citizens who will become tomorrow's leaders.

Your participation as a responsible and enthusiastic volunteer sends a great message to your player, while giving you the great feeling of accomplishment that comes from contributing to your community.

Southwest Little League does require non-volunteers to pay an additional $50 fee per registration to help offset the loss of aid, so it's also a great financial decision to find a way to be involved!

There are plenty of baseball and organizational opportunities available, so be sure to choose a role at registration, complete your volunteer application, and help us get ready for a great spring season!

Coaching

Every team needs a fleet of coaches to help a season run smoothly.

The head coach requires the most baseball experience and knowledge to best help teach the game to developing players. In addition to running practices and games, the head coach is responsible for communicating information to parents and guardians.

The assistant coach helps run practices and games in conjunction with the head coach and will take charge when the head coach is absent. The assistant coach may also help oversee drills being supervised by skills coaches.

A skills coach can be any parent of any level of experience with the game. The head and assistant coaches will direct the skills coach on the execution of a drill during practice to help players get as many repetitions as possible to help build their skills.

Team Manager

The team manager can used by the coaches to help disseminate information and coordinate non-baseball needs and activities (collecting fundraising money to deliver to treasurer, organizing a gameday snack schedule, etc). While no baseball knowledge is needed, a knack for organization is crucial!

Umpire

If you want to be closely involved in the baseball part of Little League, but don't want to coach, you should try becoming an umpire!

Southwest Little League will help train new umpires so our players get the best experience possible with having an on-field authority on providing a safe and fair game of baseball. By rule, the home team is responsible for providing umpires if one is not otherwise scheduled, so it's a great opportunity to be of service to your team while watching the game from the best "seat" at the field!

League Officer

Perhaps you'd rather work behind the scenes to help keep Southwest Little League running smoothly. If so, we always need more help from new members to the board of directors!

In addition to the traditional executive roles of President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer, the Southwest Little League needs leaders to serve in a variety of other roles, such as information officer, fundraising coordinator, equipment coordinators, player agents, safety officer, coaching coordinator, scorekeeping coordinator, registration coordinator, and umpire coordinator.

You don't have to wait for next season to start working with the board, either! If this is where you would like your efforts to lie, contact a board member and start attending meetings. There is always plenty of work and planning to go around!

Something Else

You may have some talents and abilities that you have an idea of how to apply to help the league.

GREAT!

Talk to a current board member about your ideas and let's get working together to help keep this league growing and thriving!
