Safety Top Priority for Upcoming Season

Southwest Little League families and friends,

After a very disappointing year in 2020 with a cancelled season, our board of directors has begun planning for next spring when we strongly hope to be able to take the ball fields again. That said, this season may likely look very different from the baseball we are used to seeing our kids play.

Safety will be our top priority.

We are currently drafting a league safety plan that will incorporate new procedures and guidelines required as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. We will also strictly follow all state and local government guidelines pertaining to public gatherings, organized youth sports, and sporting events.

Along those lines, we do not know what those guidelines will look like and what level of restrictions will still be in place come spring. We ask that all families and players be patient as we navigate these uncharted waters, and understand that things will be different this year. For example, we may only be able to practice and scrimmage amongst ourselves, if games with other teams/leagues are not allowed by the state. The number of spectators may also be limited in order to follow social distancing guidelines. Large social events such as our Jamboree may not be allowed.

Despite all of that, we are committed at Southwest to getting our kids back outside and onto the ball fields as safely as possible. We know they desperately need what Little League can provide - a sense of community, teamwork, and sportsmanship.

We will share more information as our plan develops and the season approaches but in the meantime invite you to read this article on best practices & guidance from Little League international regarding playing during COVID.

Thank you,
Board of Directors
