The COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic is rapidly changing the way that we, as global citizens, think, act, gather, learn, and live our daily lives. And, yes, that also means how we play Little League.
Due to governmental authorities' guidance to limit social gatherings as much as possible, both Seattle Parks and King County Parks - the organizations we rent our fields from - have halted all sports activities/rentals through April 24. Therefore, our tentative date to return to the ball fields is April 25. Until then, all baseball activities, including our Jamboree/pictures originally scheduled for April 4, have been cancelled/delayed.
While this saddens us greatly, myself and the SWLL board feel the safety of our families and communities is of the upmost importance in this new and worrisome time. However, we are exploring options - in partnership with Little League International and our regional/district leaders - to make up as much of the lost time as possible once we can return, such as extending the season into late June. And we remain hopeful that we will be able to return.
We are also very aware of how this situation affects both our families and our league financially, and are exploring how to best help those families in need while also sustaining our league's ability to continue to operate now and into the future.
This is a fluid situation and we will continue to keep you posted as we become aware of further information or updates.
Please do not hesitate to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns you may have.
